THE IMMORTALS OF MELUHA: This is the first novel of the SHIVA TRILOGY by AMISH TRIPATHI. The story is based on the land of Meluha. Meluha is an empire created by Lord RAM (one of the greatest Hindu king) years ago. And SURYAVANSHI was the rulers of the kingdom.

SURYAVANSHI was the follower of SRI RAM and SOLAR CALENDAR. They try to live a life that is as idle as possible and they believe in SATYA and DHARMA. The SURYAVANSHI rulers were facing a severe crisis as Saraswati river is drying up slowly to extinction. And they were also facing destructive attacks by the CHANDRAVANSHIS who have joined forces with NAGAS.

CHANDRAVANSHIS are the ruler of SWADEEP, they believe in LUNAR CALENDAR. And they are also a democratic dynasty and beliefs in Shringar, Saundarya, and Swatantrata. And NAGAS are cursed of raced people who had physical deformities and the were skilled warriors.

The story in THE IMMORTALS OF MELUHA starts with the arrival of SHIVA. The MELUAHAS thinks that the SHIVA is the real god who will be their savior. DAKSHA, the king of MELUHA sends his representative to North India in Tibet to invite local tribe GUNA. SHIVA was the chief of the GUNA tribe. Shiva accepts the invitation and comes to MELUHA with his people. As they reached MELUHA, the chief of medicines AYURVATI received them. The people of GUNA was impressed with the way of life MELUHANS lives. AYURVATI, the MELUHAN doctor administer medicines found that only SHIVA is untouched of this symptom and his throat had turned blue. Thus MELUHAN declared SHIVA as NEELKANTHA.

Then they took SHIVA to DEVAGIRI. DEVAGIRI is the capital of MELUHA where he meets DAKSHA, the king of MELUHA. Here SHIVA also encountered SATI the daughter of the king DAKSHA. SATI was KARMA untouchable due to sin committed in her previous birth. SHIVA tried to seek her affection bu SATI reject his advances. Ultimately SHIVA wins SATI`s heart even though the rule of KARMA prohibits them from doing this. So angry SHIVA vows to dissolve it and marry SATI.

After this SHIVA comes to know about the war with CHANDRAVANSHIS. He also meets BHRASPATI, the chief scientist of MELUHA. Who took SHIVA along with the ROYAL FAMILY to an excursion to MOUNT MANDAR. It is the place where the legendary drink was made from the water of SARASWATI. SHIVA learned that the drink which turns his throat blue was undiluted SOMRAS and it is poisonous in its pure form. SOMRAS has an antiageing property which helps MELUHANS to live for many years. SHIVA and BHRASPATI became friends and the royal family returns to DEVAGIRI.

One morning the MELUHANS wakes up bu the sound of a blast which took place in MANDAR, which destroys the mountain and killed the scientists who lived there. There was no trace of BRASHPATI. SHIVA finds the sign of NAGAS involvement with CHANDRAVANSHI. Which made SHIVA angry and he declared war on CHANDRAVANSHI at SWADEEP. He consulted with DEVGIRI`s prime-minister KANAKHALA and army hear PARVATESHWAR. a fierce battle went between MELUHANS and SWADEEPANS in which MELUHANS wins.

The king of CHANDRAVANSHI was captured but he became angry to see NEELKHANT. ANANDAMAYEE, the princes of SWADEEP explain that they have same belief that NEELKANTH will come to save their land from the "EVIL" SURYAVANSHI. SHIVA was speechless and utterly distress to hear this. He visits the Famous RAM MANDIR of AYODHYA with SATI. There he had a philosophical discussion with the priest of the mandir about KARAMA, FAITH, and CHOICES in life. As SHIVA comes out of the mandir he found that SATI is being stalked by a NAGA.
