THE TRAIN TO PAKISTAN is a historical novel written by KHUSWANT Singh in the year 1956. The story in the novel describes his experience in the partition of India in 1947. TRAIN TO PAKISTAN became his most known novel. In the year 1998, a flim based on the story of this novel was made. Khuswant Sing was an Indian author, lawyer, journalist, diplomat, and politician. He was born in Hudali, Khushab district in Punjab, (now in Pakistan) and studied in Delhi. He worked as a lawyer in Lahore court for eight years before India`s Independence. After Independence, he joined the Indian foreign service. Khuswant Singh recounts the Partition of India in August 1947, in this novel. Where 10 million people- Muslimes, Hindus, Shiks were in a fight and almost a million people died in this. During this time the whole Northern India was under terror, one village of this region was Mano Major. The story in TRAIN TO PAKISTAN is based on this Mano Majro village. This village is situated on the border of India and Pakistan, where Sicks and Muslimes had lived happily together for centuries. Then a day at the end of the summer that year the "GHOST TRAIN" arrives.

The actual fact is both sides killed, both shot and stabbed and speared and clubbed. Both were tortured and raped. The story in the novel plunged into the abyss of religious hate. The novel also tells the story of a Sikh boy and a Muslim girl whose love suffered due to ravages of the war.
