THE WHITE TIGER is a novel written by ARAVIND ADIGA. This is his first novel which was published in 2008. The novel won the 40th man booker prize that year. The novel shares a darkly humorous perspective of India`s struggle in a globalized world. The story in the novel WHITE TIGER is based on a village boy Balaram Halwai. Balaram Halwai narrates the story of his life in this novel. This whole book was written on seven consecutive nights. And this was address to Chinese Premier, Wen Jiabao. In this novel, the narrator explains how being a son of a rickshaw puller he escapes from a life of a servant to become a successful businessman. He also described himself as an entrepreneur.



The story in the novel starts when Balaram Halwai was forced to leave school in order to pay his cousin`s dowery. Because he had to start working in a tea shop in Dhanbad. While narrating the story he described himself as a bad servant and a good listener. because being a good listener he learned Indian politics and economics from customer conversations.

Balaram gets a job as the main driver for the richest family in his village. He had to drive from a small car to a luxury car like Honda for the family. Balaram moves to Delhi with Ashok and Pinki. They were the son and daughter in law of the richest family of his village who hired him. During their stay in Delhi Balaram learned about corruption, especially at the government level.

One night Pinky took the car from Balaram in a drunken condition and hit someone on the road and drives away. However, it is considered that she may have killed a child. Ashok's family forced Balaram to confessed that he was on the wheel alone. Ashok desperately involved himself in bribing the government official in order to safeguard the reputation of their business. Balaram decides to kill Ashok due to escape from the cage of a slave.

After killing Ashok and stealing a huge amount of money Balaram moves to Bangalore. Here he bribed police, to begin, a taxi business. Balaram explains that his own family was almost killed by Ashok's relatives as an act of revenge for Ashok's murder. At the end of the novel, he realizes his action and considered that his freedom is worth the life of his family and Ashok. And thus the novel ends letting the reader think of the dark humor of the story as well as the idea of life as a trap.
